Course Structure

The IB Math Applications & Interpretation SL course is designed for students who want to apply mathematics to real-world contexts, using technology and data to model and interpret. Assessment consists of two written papers plus an Internal Assessment.

Paper 1 · 40%

Short-Response

90 minutes. Short questions typically 5–9 marks. Graphic display calculator required. Covers the full syllabus.

Paper 2 · 40%

Extended-Response

90 minutes. Long questions 14–18 marks. GDC required. Narrower range of topics, testing deeper understanding and reasoning.

IA · 20%

Mathematical Exploration

A written investigation of an area of mathematics that interests you. Applied to a personally chosen context.

Tips for Success

A few habits that consistently separate top-scoring AI SL students.

  1. Sanity-check the magnitude of every answer. Does 2.7 million people make sense for a village population? Probably not.
  2. Chain your working together. In multi-part questions, look for values from earlier parts to plug into later ones.
  3. Show every step clearly. Accurate, concise mathematical communication earns method marks — even when the final answer is off.
  4. Learn your GDC shortcuts. Both papers are calculator-assumed. Fluency saves minutes and prevents transcription errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IB Math AI SL?

IB Mathematics Applications & Interpretation Standard Level is one of the four math courses in the current IB Mathematics curriculum (2021–2027). It's designed for students who want to use mathematics to solve real-world, applied problems — typically those heading into arts, humanities, law, or design pathways.

How does this revision engine work?

Each unit has its own randomised question pool covering every sub-topic in the syllabus. Attempt a question, then either reveal the mark scheme for a detailed worked solution or submit your written answer for AI grading. Your marks are logged automatically so you can see per-topic mastery over time.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — every new account gets 7 days of full access, including AI grading and mark schemes. After the trial, a one-off €49 payment gives you a full year of access. No auto-renewal, no surprise charges.

How is my progress tracked?

Every question you attempt is logged to your account (via Google sign-in). The Progress dashboard breaks down your attempts by unit and by sub-topic, with a "confidence-weighted mastery" score — your bar fills only once you've completed at least 20 attempts per unit, so a small sample doesn't overstate mastery.

Can I cancel or get a refund?

The €49 is a one-time payment, so there's nothing to cancel. If you need to discuss a refund or have an issue with your account, click "Manage Subscription" (once signed in) or email pbromfield@ibmathrevision.com.
